Laugh it off.
When the storms of life hit, it is very easy to withdraw. There is a real temptation to isolate and obsess over every little wrong thing happening. Gratitude is lost, hearts become discouraged, and the spark dims in our eyes. Life is difficult. And it will only get harder.
One clinical technique mental health clinicians implement when interacting with clients experiencing depressive symptoms is to start a gratitude journal. Depression covers your eyes to the good that is all around you. You become absorbed in your own thoughts. Your mind, initially given as a means of thinking and pondering, becomes your worst enemy as you become trapped in your own emotions.
We can not wait to do something because we do not feel like doing it. Oftentimes we must behave first then our emotions will follow. So find something good that is happening in your life. It is not difficult if you look in the right places. And isn’t it an encouraging thing to know, that no matter how bad your life seems, that there is always something, or someone to be grateful for?
With love,
Grace
